Course Information
Description
An introduction to foundational texts, concepts, and skills in the interdisciplinary study of gender and sexuality. Students will gain practice applying key concepts to the analysis of archival texts and to issues with which scholars grapple on a daily basis and within many academic disciplines. Crucially, this course encourages students to think and work collaboratively, to co-create productive conversations, and to integrate these theoretical explorations with a critical analysis of our own multiple locations.
Readings include Gloria Anzaldúa, Audre Lorde, Donna Haraway, Patricia Williams, Kimberlé Crenshaw, Judith Butler, Durba Mitra, Simone de Beauvoir, Dorothy Roberts, Saidiya Hartman, José Esteban Muñoz, Sara Ahmed, Alison Bechdel, bell hooks, Chandra Talpade Mohanty, and Michel Foucault.
