Course Information

Description

This course will provide an overview of topics covered in both the Principles of Oral Health (POH) and Scholarship in Oral Health (SOH) courses in order to prepare Advanced Standing students to join the DMD curriculum.  The focus will be three-fold.  (1) Students will be introduced to dental anatomy as well as all of the basic dental sciences, clinical sciences, and evidence-based dentistry.  (2) Students will also be introduced to key research topics including search tools and basic research methods, as well as clinical study design, survey design, and manuscript and grant proposal writing.  (3) In addition, students will participate in clinical observation rotations through the dental disciplines at HSDM, providing them with the basics of the teaching practice clinic layout, the clinical staff and faculty, the clinic policies and procedures, and the dental disciplines taught at HSDM.

Outlines and notes from didactic lectures will be posted on the course website for students to review weekly.  There will also be at least two required in-person class sessions each week with subject experts for critical review and discussion of key topics.
