Kant's Critique of Pure Reason
PHIL 129

Course Information

Description

In this course, we will work through Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason (1781/87). With this book, Kant hoped to revolutionize philosophy and usher in a new way of thinking about human beings, the world around us, and what might be beyond our reach. In this course, we will focus on the new account of metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of mind that Kant defends. We will explore questions about the nature of the human mind, experience, self, and freedom, as well as questions about the metaphysics of the world and the foundations of mathematics and natural science.
