Precision Nutrition: Dietary Intervention Studies and Nutrition Omics
NUT 250

Course Information

Description

Aim of the course: To provide knowledge and practical skills for designing and interpreting dietary intervention trials in the era of precision nutrition. The course introduces the principles of nutritional randomized controlled trials (RCTs), from study design to outcome selection and reporting. Using real-world clinical trials, students will explore how body composition, fat depots, hormones, glycemic control, brain health, gut microbiome, and metabolic variability influence individual responses to diet. Special emphasis is placed on nutrition omics, including metabolomics, proteomics, epigenetics, and microbiome profiling, as tools to assess dietary exposure, compliance, and biological response. Upon completion, students will be able to design and critically evaluate nutrition RCTs, integrate omics-based biomarkers, and understand how personalized dietary strategies can be developed beyond population-based guidelines.
