Course Information
Description
The human brain has 86 billion neurons and over 100 trillion synapses. This course explores models for understanding how neurons work together to build perception, store memories, and drive behavior, using tools from mathematics, physics, and computer science. We will survey topics in computational neuroscience, developing skills in data-analytic and theoretical approaches. In parallel with learning about existing models, students will conduct a research project on a topic of their choice. Familiarity with Python, linear algebra, and multivariable calculus is assumed.
Recommended Prep
Experience with numerical programming is required for success in this course. Linear algebra, differential equations, and dynamical systems at the level of Math 21+ strongly recommended.
