Course Information
Description
Modern Greek Ab is the second course in the Elementary Modern Greek language sequence (MODGREEK Aa & MODGREEK Ab). This course is designed for students who have taken Modern Greek Aa in the Fall or who possess an equivalent knowledge of Modern Greek. Students explore and engage with aspects of contemporary Greek culture within various thematic contexts including shopping, family, dining out, museums, art, and major holidays through a variety of multimodal texts (e.g., written, audio, audiovisual, and visual). Through interactions with classmates and the instructor(s), students will, by the end of the semester, have solidified their foundation in the four linguistic competencies of reading, writing, listening, and speaking, being able to recognize high-frequency words and phrases of immediate personal and professional relevance, communicate on familiar topics and activities, read and engage with simple texts, and attain a deeper familiarity with the cultures and traditions of Modern Greek-speaking communities in Greece, Cyprus, and the Hellenic diaspora.
