Course Information

Description

The Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Elective at MGH will provide students the opportunity to see patients at the time of diagnosis of leukemia and other hematologic malignancies and during their course of treatment, and to follow patients who are undergoing bone marrow transplantation from admission through hospital discharge. Students will round with the attending MD on the two services and will have the opportunity to see patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. They will be able to observe the collection of stem cells for transplantation and how they are processed in the Cellular Therapeutics and Transplantation Laboratory. They will observe and potentially participate in bone marrow biopsies and bone marrow collections in the OR.

Students may add themselves to the waiting list for this course during add/drop periods but not during lottery periods. Prior approval required, please email Dr. Spitzer; tspitzer@mgh.harvard.edu
