Course Information
Description
Intermediate Medical French is designed for students with some working knowledge of conversational French. The Fall course will have a particular focus on the basics of taking a medical history with patients. With weekly sessions led by HMS teaching faculty, we hope to provide a solid base for our students to learn enough medical French terminology to communicate effectively with patients in a variety of medical settings. Requirements for this course include: at least one year of college French or two years of high school French; ability to maintain a basic conversation in French with minimal difficulty or hesitation; ability to discuss personal information, comfort with grammar fundamentals and basic reading and writing skills in French. Course Features: 1) interactive didactic sessions, with a focus on conversational skills, 2) vocabulary lists and quizzes, 3) opportunities to shadow French-speaking physicians
Attendance is obligatory. Only 3 excused absences are permitted. Please notify the instructor as soon as possible if you need to miss a class. Failure to attend more than 3 classes will result in a Fail grade. As this is mostly a conversational course, making up a missed session might be an option based on the instructor's discretion.
