Course Information
Description
The course discusses conceptual and practical issues encountered in the design, conduct, and analysis of epidemiologic studies. We begin with a description of tasks in clinical research: description, prediction, and causal inference. We then introduce the counterfactual conceptualization of causal effects and apply this principle as a framework for understanding epidemiologic methods from a theoretical and practical perspective. The course discusses the conceptual and practical issues encountered in designing and analyzing epidemiologic studies for description and causal inference. This will be the first course in a two-part epidemiological methods series.
