Course Information
Description
Climate change and natural disasters pose growing threats to population health and health systems in low- and middle-income countries. These shocks can disrupt services, damage critical infrastructure, displace communities, and shift disease burdens—often with the greatest impact on already vulnerable groups. This course explores how health systems can prepare for, adapt to, and recover from such shocks.
We will begin with core concepts of risk and resilience, then examine the impacts of climate hazards on population health, health care demand, and service delivery. You will learn to critically evaluate and design interventions and policies, integrate resilience into planning and financing, and assess cost-effective strategies to maintain essential services during crises. Through lectures, guest speakers, and case studies, we will connect theory to practice and build the tools you need to contribute to stronger, climate-resilient health systems.
