Description
A lecture survey of the modern history of Burma (Myanmar), Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines from 1800 to the present comparing the experience and aftermath of British, French, Dutch, Spanish and US imperialism in the region.
Course Notes
No prior college level History is required or assumed. Students seeking to fulfill their Social Sciences distribution requirement, first-years, and others are welcome. This course meets the "Beyond North America" History Concentration requirement. Former course number "Hist 1037."
Class Notes
This class requires students to enroll in an untimed, placeholder section during registration and to submit time preferences. Sections will be assigned immediately after registration based on student interest and preferences.
