Animality in Jewish Culture and Religion
HDS 1506
Subject & Catalog Number
Course Information
Description
Animality has been linked to gendered oppression and dehumanization, but it has also served visions of broader kinship and ethical transformation. We’ll explore questions of animal ethics, feminist thought, and ecological entanglement across a range of Jewish genres and languages, including the Talmud, folklore and philosophy, and modernist poetry translated into English from Yiddish and Hebrew.
