Description
This course introduces students to the foundational principles and practices of research development in global health, with a critical emphasis on ethical standards, methodological diversity, and the social contexts of inquiry. Students will explore research design through both quantitative and qualitative lenses - drawing from foundational works by Hubert and Ann Blalock, as well as interpretive, feminist, and decolonial scholars such as Clifford Geertz, Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Paul Farmer, and Patricia Hill Collins. The course emphasizes developing research questions, understanding ground realities of fieldwork, navigating ethical complexities, and preparing for thesis research. Students will work toward finalizing their thesis topics and developing research proposals for IRB submission in the spring semester.
