Migration, Journeys, and Borders: Post-Wende German Literature and Culture.
GERMAN 66

Course Information

Description

In this course, we will explore the ways in which texts portray constantly shifting borders, identities in flux, and people on the move: migrants, refugees, and travelers who navigate both physical and imagined spaces. We will grapple with questions of belonging in the context of contemporary German culture and examine how mobility fosters cultural exchange in a globalized world. We will also examine historical developments and relevant cultural theories, and engage in close reading and critical analysis of selected literary works by and about migrants, refugees, and travelers. This is an advanced conversation and grammar course that serves as a bridge between 20b and 100-level courses in German.
