Description
*Lottery-Based Enrollment* In the United States, community colleges and other open admission institutions enroll nearly 70% of the total college student population, yet they often remain overlooked or misrepresented in conversations about policy, practice, and innovation. This course invites you to step through the “open doors” of these institutions and to engage deeply with the challenges and possibilities they face. Together, we will explore their historic roots and contemporary missions, learn from the students and communities they serve, and grapple with the evolving role they play in the landscape of American higher education. This course invites students to think critically and creatively about access to higher education and to consider policies and practices that support student success, community development, and social justice as we envision the future of open access higher education. This course is recommended for higher education concentrators and students who want to learn more about open access post-secondary education.
