Course Information
Description
During the course of the MMSCI program learners work with their mentors on two thematically linked research projects, which form the basis for two potentially publishable projects on which the learner is the first author (or an equivalent body of work). The Clinical & Translational Investigation Thesis Preparation course provides guidance on topics critical to a successful mentored research experience, as well as focusing on the preparation and presentation of the written and oral forms of the thesis defense.
This course supports learners in preparing their thesis while building key skills for academic and research success. In this course students will focus on foundational skills including preparing for thesis committee meetings and reports, developing an Individual Development Plan, and building strategies for giving and receiving feedback. The course also provides instruction on advanced communication and writing skills, including analytic strategies for qualitative and quantitative data, presenting data effectively, and writing for both academic and public audiences. The course assignments provide students with an opportunity to present their thesis work to their peers and receive constructive feedback about their thesis projects and presentation skills.
