Course Information

Description

Lectures and laboratory instruction on electron microscopy, with a focus on transmission electron microscopy (TEM), aberration-correction microscopy and microanalysis. Lab classes include; SEM imaging, TEM imaging, diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, electron energy-loss spectroscopy, high resolution atomic imaging, and Cs-corrected STEM. Towards the end of the class, students perform an independent research study using electron microscopy on an area of their interest which can include hard materials, polymers, and biological samples.

Course Notes

Primarily for graduate students planning to use TEM for their research. There is a weekly required lab to be scheduled once students know their course schedule.
