ANCSTD 201

Course Information

Description

In recent decades, specialists across a range of subfields have richly explored meaning-making with past in modes apart from the writing of history, including the importance of gaps, silences, and omissions. Most of this discussion, however, has focused on modernity. This seminar explores ancient examples from across Eurasia. We will discuss the theorization of memory and forgetting within Memory Studies, thus, but also engage Jewish, Roman, Christian, Chinese, Buddhist, and other sources.
